Fair northern fish
Hätälä is a fourth-generation genuine family company, for which sustainability is the guiding principle in all operations.
Product safety and quality
The quality and safety of Hätälä’s products are based on the best raw materials, skilled staff and modern technology.
The BRC certificate is the most internationally recognised and comprehensive food quality and safety standard and quality system. Compliance with the standard is monitored by regular audits.
Hätälä selects its fish suppliers carefully and audits their activities. The company’s acquisitions emphasise fresh and certified raw materials. The origin of the farmed fish we use in our products is traceable throughout their life cycle – from egg to fillet. In the case of wild fish, the fisherman and the catch area are always known, as well as the catch time, so the route of the fish from the water to the plate can be traced quite accurately if necessary.
Hätälä conducts continuous product development in interaction with its customers, with the aim of tasty, healthy and competitive fish products. We also develop new products from domestic natural fish, the utilisation of which is good for the environment and the climate.

Responsibly farmed and caught fish
Hätälä has both MSC, ASC and Global Gap certifications. The labels indicate sustainable and responsible fishing and production.
The domestic fish we use is always responsibly caught and handled by professional Finnish fishermen. We do not use any fish that have been placed on the WWF Red List in Finland.
Economic and social responsibility
Financial profitability and growth
Hätälä takes care of its profitability and competitiveness. In this way, the company secures its opportunities to employ, expand and invest. At the same time, it ensures its ability, among other things, to meet various environmental requirements. A major factory expansion is currently in progress.
Hätälä leaves a significant financial footprint in terms of salaries, taxes and other payments. In this way, the company stimulates the economy both in its own area and more generally in Finland.
Jobs, especially for young people
Hätälä employs 220 persons directly and permanently; in high season, the number is up to approximately 350 people. We employ a lot of young people: the average age of our staff is only 32 years, and many young people get their first contact with working life during a summer job at our factory. In addition, Hätälä’s transportation provides work for about 100 persons.
For the domestic fisherman and fish
Hätälä also cooperates with more than 400 professional Finnish fishermen. We offer our valued partners a wide range of practical support as well as a ready-made channel for delivering fish.
We aim to increase the share of domestic wild fish in our operations and emphasise the position of domestic fish by highlighting seasonal fish.
Hätälä’s people are one
A family business’s values include taking care of its own staff. Personnel matters are managed in the company on the principle of continuous improvement, and we invest in staff orientation, training and occupational safety. We work together – as one Hätälä!
